About us
Who are we?
The Manchester Medical Students' Charity was setup 4 years ago by Dr Lawrence Cotter, MRI Hospital University Dean. Each year we nominate a local medically-related charity and throughout the year we hold fundraising events for Manchester medical students. Our main events are educational (revision sessions and workshops) and all students seem to find them beneficial by covering things missed from our current curriculum. We try to stray away from hosting the messy binge nights out that we're all familiar with. Instead, we host fun and fresh events that can be enjoyed by everyone. If you feel that you'd like to help with our worthwile cause, then please visit our contact page.
Our sponsored charity
This year the charity we have chosen to support is the Manchester Childrens Burns Foundation. This charitable organization was established to support the recovery and reintegration to normal life of young burns survivors and their families. They aim to do this through burns camps, training for staff and volunteers and funding research in order to improve the outcome of burn injuries.
Charities that we have sponsored in the past:
| 2005-2006 | Francis House Children's Hospice | £1388 |
| 2006-2007 | MRI New Children's Hospital Appeal | £2282 |
| 2007-2008 | Key 103 'Cash for Kids' | £1800 |
| 2008-2009 | Talbot House | £2830 |
Our events
Our main charity activities revolve around fundraising. We host a varied range of events throughout the academic year to attract as many donations as possible.
-
OSCE revision sessions
Our famous OSCE revision sessions are hosted before every major exam for third and fourth years. These seminars are taught by senior students and junior doctors and involve a mix of presentations and practical demonstrations. It's an excellent opportunity to cram as much knowledge before the onslaught that is the OSCES!
-
Curries
We host the annual 3rd year clinical welcome curry on curry mile. This well attended event is an excellent opportunity for old 3rd years to catch up and new ones to mingle!
-
Pub Quizes
New for 2008-2009, we will be hosting pub quizzes at the infamous Robinskis in Fallowfield. We all know medics love a bit of competition, so what better way to prove your PBL-superiority than with a pub quiz?!
-
Upcoming events
Currently we are looking into these exciting new events:
